Certification and Triggered Competency Assessment
In the UK, training in PoCUS is provided using the curriculum outlined by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM). The RCEM outlines the process for attaining competency on their website here. The Level 1 ECCU Course is recognised by RCEM as an introductory PoCUS course. We provide a cerificate of attendance not competency. Competency is assessed after a period of supervised practice via local RCEM Regional Leads.
In Europe, regional programs provide training in conjunction with IFEM and the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EuSEM).
The International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM) has published guidance on training, certification, and maintenance of competency for point of care ultrasound (PoCUS).
This curriculum guidance can be found here.
